The Rise of 408

If you’ve been getting into 408 lately, you might be wondering where the name comes from and what makes them stand out. In a recent interview with REVERB, the band opened up about their roots, their sound, and what’s coming next.

The name “408” actually comes from Orlando, Florida; Specifically a major road that loops around the city. As the band’s frontman explained, “I named it after the road in Orlando… it’s a highway that overlooks the city.” For him, that road holds a lot of meaning. It reminds him of when he first moved to Orlando to attend UCF and all the experiences that came with it. “I had a lot of coming-of-age moments on the road… dealing with life stuff,” he said. Those long drives to class, internships, and everyday life stuck with him, which is why naming the band after it felt right. Today, 408 is made up of Nick Hanus, Nick Roque, Jake Cerretani, and Mark Faroudi.

At first listen, you might think 408 is just another pop-punk band, but their sound goes beyond that. “We like to mix genre a lot… we’re inspired by many different sounds,” they explained. While bands like Blink-182 are a major influence, their music also pulls from metal, hip-hop, and even EDM. “We grew up on blink… but right up there is so many other genres.” That mix gives their music a unique edge and helps them stand out from others in the same space.

Some of the band’s story actually starts at the University of Central Florida, where a few members met. Interestingly, one of the members didn’t study music, he studied marketing. That background ended up playing a big role in the band’s growth. “It definitely is a massive part in the direction of how we do things,” he said. From shaping their image to promoting their music, those skills helped them build a strong presence, especially online.

Like many artists today, 408 saw a big boost from social media. “When we had some viral moments on TikTok… that put us into the next level,” they shared. Along with that, touring across the country and playing festivals helped grow their fanbase even more. “All of those things have a domino effect.” Each opportunity led to another, and their momentum kept building.

When it comes to songwriting, their process is pretty flexible. Ideas can come from anywhere, even random moments. “Sometimes I’m in the shower and I’m just like, man, this would be cool,” the frontman said. From there, the band builds the song together, often working with other writers and producers in Nashville. “It’s a lot of collaboration.” Everyone contributes, which helps shape their evolving sound.

Over time, 408 has continued to grow and experiment musically. “It definitely evolved naturally over time,” they said. What started as a more traditional pop-punk sound has expanded to include heavier elements, hip-hop influences, and more variety overall. “We have this dial that we can go back and forth from.” That willingness to explore is a big part of what defines them now.

Even with popular songs like “Backfired,” the band feels like their best work is still ahead. “What’s yet to come will truly represent the band the best,” they said. They’ve been working on new music and are confident it will be their strongest release yet. “You’re gonna get the best stuff we have to offer.”

For new listeners, there’s no single perfect starting point because their sound covers a lot of ground. “It would depend on that friend and what their tastes are,” they explained. Still, they suggest starting with “Backfired” for a general introduction, “Incomplete” for something heavier, or “Remember Her Like That” for a more balanced sound.

At the end of the day, 408 is a band that refuses to stay in one lane. They draw from different influences, continue to evolve, and focus on creating the best music they can. That mix of creativity and growth is exactly what makes them a band worth paying attention to.
